PRESENTER

Stephen Faulkner

steveStephen Faulkner is an English teacher and teacher trainer working for DTP Online. He has over 10 years experience of teaching students from very young learners to teenagers and adults.  This experience allows him to gain a deep insight in teaching in the classroom. It also gives him opportunities to apply different approaches and means to enhance his own teaching. Getting involved in the i-Learn Smart Start programme from the beginning, he plays an active role in training teachers to use modern technology to make teaching and learning more interactive, creative and enjoyable. As a teacher coming from overseas, he understands how essential cultural elements are in an English classroom. Culture opens new horizons to learners and at the same time, presents a new perspective for teachers and thus plays a crucial role in the English learning classroom. In this workshop, teachers will explore activities focusing on culture to give them ideas to design their own classroom activities.

sonyaSonya Steven King

Sonya works as a teacher, teacher trainer and materials developer for DTP Online. She initially joined the company in May 2015 as a writer / trainer on the first edition of i-Learn Smart Start book series, before moving to the Academic Department.  Sonya has over four years’ experience working  as an ESL teacher, primarily focusing on teaching kindergarten and primary school students.  She believes that bringing fun into the classroom is essential key to successful learning at an early age and that technology plays an integral role in assisting with this.

Wee Chee

SIM Wee Chee has more than 20 years of experience in the education sector. He was involved in the development and deployment of the Students’ and Teachers’ Workbench (STW) system together with the Ministry of Education, Singapore. STW was the world’s first nationwide e-learning system to be deployed in schools in 1996. In the next 8 years, he was heavily involved in the design and development of numerous e-learning platforms and digital books with the Ministry of Education, Singapore.

Noticing that educators were more concerned with the content rather than the medium of delivery, Wee Chee decided to join the education publishing industry in 2004 to develop quality content for schools. Since then, he had been involved in many textbook publishing projects in more than 10 countries. His work took him to almost 60 cities in the last 10 years.

His latest publishing projects with Alston Publishing House were endorsed by the Cambridge International Examinations. This is another first to be achieved by a Singapore-based publishing house.
